Sloyan Doyle Demolition

Environmental

Few industries have a greater potential to cause pollution, annoyance and disturbance to local communities and the environment than demolition. For clients, badly planned and executed demolition projects damage reputations and cause resentment and ill will.

We recognise this potential at Sloyan Doyle and see it as an opportunity to set ourselves apart from our competitors by always being a ‘good neighbour’ and aiming to achieve the highest environmental performance on all of our sites.

We were one of the first demolition contractors in the country to implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) and have it certified to BS EN ISO 14001.

On all projects, we have procedures in place to assess, plan for, implement, monitor and improve where necessary measures for the control and minimisation of the environmental hazards and nuisance arising from our activities. This typically includes:

  • public relations / liaison to keep local community informed and ‘on side’
  • surveys and procedures to ensure that all hazardous materials present on site are identified, treated and removed safely.
  • transport planning, route selection, speed control, delivery times
  • site security to prevent unauthorised access and (especially) to keep local children safe.
  • hours of work.
  • control of dust and emissions to air
  • protection of drains and water courses
  • control of noise

The other aim of our EMS is to minimise our nett use of natural resources, and we do this by analysing each of our operations and finding ways to either reduce the resources needed (such as fuel usage by careful selection and maintenance of plant / vehicles, route planning and the like) and by maximising the potential for re-use and recycling of our own wastes and those arising from our projects. In this regard, we note that we are currently able to recycle between 95 and 99 percent of the materials arising from our operations.
